Homemade Fish Sticks Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 lb white fish fillets (like cod, haddock, or tilapia), cut into strips
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs (or regular breadcrumbs)
- 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for extra flavor)
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika (or smoked paprika for a smoky twist)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon fresh parsley, chopped (optional, for garnish)
- Olive oil or cooking spray, for baking or frying
For the Dipping Sauce (Optional):
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoon ketchup or Sriracha (for a spicy kick)
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon dill or pickle relish (optional)
Method:
- Set your oven for 425°F (220°C). Parchment paper should line a baking sheet; lightly coat it with cooking spray or olive oil.
- arrange three shallow dishes. Spoon the flour in the first bowl. Second bowl: beat the eggs. In the third bowl toss the panko breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Shaking off any extra, dredge every fish strip in the flour. Dip the strip in the beaten eggs then, letting any extra run off. At last, cover the strip in the breadcrumb mixture and lightly push to guarantee it sticks firmly. Repeat with every fish strip.
- On the ready baking sheet, place the covered fish sticks one layer on top of another. For additional crispness, gently mist the tops with olive oil or cooking spray. Flip halfway through after 12 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven to get crispy on the exterior and cooked through inside.
Variations and tips:
- Fish Sticks Made with Cod: Because of its mild taste and flaky texture, cod is a common choice; but, you could also use tilapia, haddock, or any other firm white fish you enjoy.
- Cooking these fish sticks in an air fryer at 400°F (200°C) for roughly 10 to 12 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through, will provide a healthier spin.
- Add a little cayenne pepper to the breadcrumb mix for some heat, or experiment with other spices like Old Bay or Cajun for extra taste.
- Create a gluten-free recipe. Making these fish sticks fit for those with gluten sensitivity, use gluten-free flour and breadcrumbs.
- Leftovers kept in an airtight container in the refrigerator should last up to three days. Reheat them in an air fryer or oven to keep crispiness.
